NTS Specialist/BICSI NTS Specialist Exam

The rapid increase in the use of networks and internetworks for transporting data, voice, video and other emerging applications, means that there is a growing demand for design professionals with globally recognised design skills. With today’s evolving technologies, those who are able to demonstrate superiority and proficiency in designing local area and internetworks transport systems are considered extremely valuable assets to their companies.

The BICSI NTS (Network Transport Systems) course is available to current BICSI members who already possess the RCDD designation. Achieving the NTS designation demonstrates outstanding NTS design skills that give significant competitive recognition. The duration of this course is 6-days, including the exam.

Those with BICSI RCDD status

Prerequisites
Current BICSI RCDD designation and membership of BICSI plus 2 years of documentable design, implementation and/or administration experience with LAN systems is required

Course objectives
Successful delegates achieve the BICSI NTS Specialist status, an internationally recognized qualification

Course Content (100% Theory)

Day 1
Course introduction & objectives
    • Networking design fundamentals
    • LAN components
    • Operations & design
    • Internetworking technologies used to link networks
    • Network cabling systems for building & campus environments

Day 2
    • Ethernet technologies up to & including 10 Gigabit Ethernet
    • Telecommunications circuits T-Carrier, X.25, ISDN, Frame Relay, xDSL, SONET, RPR
    • Remote access technologies for distant users
    • Wireless networking technologies, WPAN, WLAN, WMAN, WWAN; Internet Protocol (IP)

Day 3
    • Network security, firewalls, VPNs, authentication, authorisation, accounting
    • Network management, hardware & software, users, traffic (QoS)
    • Network storage, NAS, SAN, backups
    • Network applications, VoIP, real-time video, store-and-forward video Days 4, 5 & 6

The last three days of this course comprise, two days of review & a one- day exam. One day between the review & exam is allowed for private study & revision
