ECT-200/5: ExtremeWare CLI Configuration and Basic Troubleshooting

Course Description
The ExtremeWare CLI Configuration and Basic Troubleshooting (ECT) training class provides instructor-led lectures and extensive laboratory exercises. This course presents the concepts and skills required to deploy the Extreme Networks products as Layer-2 switches and as wire-speed Layer-3 routers in a variety of network situations.

The course focus is on device management, Layer-2 configuration, Layer-3 configuration for IP networks using static routes, RIP, and OSPF, and basic troubleshooting. The course also presents the switch architecture and the ExtremeWare and ExtremeWare XOS software feature sets.

Intended Audience
This course is designed for individuals responsible for the configuration, management, maintenance, and support of the Extreme Networks family of LAN switches.

Prerequisite Skills
A working familiarity with LAN concepts, including basic Ethernet and TCP/IP is required. These prerequisites can be met by attending the Extreme Introduction to Data Networking (EDN-100/3) and Extreme Introduction to IP Routing (EIP-100/2) training classes.

Students Learn to:

  • Describe Extreme Networks switch architecture, switching products, and software products.
  • Define Extreme Networks hardware and software features.
  • Define the ExtremeWare and ExtremeWare XOS Command Line Interface structure.
  • Configure the switch for management access, navigate the command interface, and save the switch configuration.
  • Configure port parameters, layer-2 forwarding, and port load sharing.
  • Describe different VLAN types.
  • Create and configure port-based, protocol-based, and MAC-based VLANs.
  • Configure a network using the Spanning Tree Protocol.
  • Configure static IP forwarding and IP routing functions.
  • Configure and deploy a dynamically routed network using RIP and OSPF.
  • Describe and perform basic troubleshooting steps for layer-2 and layer-3 networks.
  • Briefly describe ExtremeWare and ExtremeWare XOS advanced features.
  • Perform diagnostics on the switch.
